Tutor feature – Milena Galasso

Milena Galasso is a London-based pop artist with Italian-Serbian roots and a rare talent for transforming life’s ups and downs into music that connects and inspires. As a teacher, Milena brings the same energy and creativity to her lessons as she does to her song writing – encouraging students to embrace both the highs and the ‘what on earth am I doing?’ moments of their own musical journeys. Her approach is all about making music relatable and fun, whether her students are singing along at home or building confidence on stage. Expect heartfelt pop, a dash of drama, and a supportive environment where everyone is welcome to dance, reflect, and grow.

Fresh from releasing her debut EP, I hope you’re having fun, Milena’s impact extends far beyond the stage. Her record, a love letter to youth and self-discovery, reflects the very qualities she aims to nurture in her students: curiosity, resilience, and a willingness to embrace the messiness of learning something new. Having performed at some of London’s most iconic venues – including Scala and 93 Feet East – and with accolades such as Warchild support artist and Isle of Wight New Blood 2024 finalist, Milena brings real-world experience, passion, and empathy to every lesson. She is committed to helping her students find their own voices – onstage, in the classroom, and beyond.

Favourite Baroque composer?

Johann Sebastian Bach. No one else makes counterpoint feel like a spiritual experience.

If she could sing a duet with any animal, what would it be?

A beluga whale. They already sing in whistles and overtones – we’d be the ocean’s weirdest girl group.

A pop song she secretly sings?

‘Complicated’ by Avril Lavigne. No shame, just early 2000s feelings.

An instrument she’d take to a desert island?

A kalimba. It’s portable, calming, and doubles as a coconut-opener in a pinch.

Morning routine: scales or coffee?

Scales. In all 24 keys. Coffee is the reward.

Most overrated musical cliché?

‘Feel the music.’ Okay, but also… count.

A song she’d sing at karaoke?

‘Torn’ by Natalie Imbruglia. It’s got angst, melody, and everyone secretly knows the chorus.

Sheet music or free improvisation?

Both. Like eyeliner and glitter – depends on the mood, but magic happens when they mix.

Her teaching superpower?

Reading a student’s energy within 5 seconds and adjusting the whole lesson without them noticing.

Advice to young musicians?

Learn the rules so you can bend them with purpose. And hydrate – always hydrate.
